Ready for a Break? (2)

Let’s get real. Your firm might have ‘Wellbeing’ high on its list (most do), but no one’s going to call you to suggest you think of taking a holiday. And if they did, you’d be pretty suspicious.

This is one of those things you have to manage for yourself. There aren’t a lot of options for travel just now, but how are you feeling after three months of lockdown, and do you need to design a break?

Do you have one of those jobs where they employ clever people but haven’t worked out how to let you have a proper refreshing break from work?

A boss who tells you you can take a few days off so long as you keep looking at emails is cheating.

Even from your point of view, a complete cut-off from all work communications might feel a bit scary. If you’re engaged with your work, and if you’re honest with yourself, you might still want to hear about really important stuff when you’re off duty, but you don’t want to log in and trawl through all your messages. If your boss isn’t clever enough to think of it, why not suggest they send you a text if they need you to look at an email, but otherwise you’ll read emails when you’re back?
