Surely, it’s time for a break?
Three whole months of lockdown. Anyone with a phone or a computer has been caged at home, a sitting target. The workload’s been uneven. Some people with lots to do, and maybe with children to educate too. Others with plenty of time on their hands to worry about their future. And for those fortunate enough to be in a job, a common theme has been the stretching of the working day.
But I’m not talking about you. I’m talking about the people who work for you. What’s it been like for them?
Some days, have the long silent gaps between assignments felt just as wearing to them as working against a deadline? Have they felt on the end of a string when you’ve called on them out of the blue for urgent help? Have they felt taken for granted, unrespected, when you’ve just assumed they live every minute with a laptop within reach and are available any hour of the day or night?
Perfect as you are, you might have slipped into lockdown-thinking and missed some of these things. After all, what good would a break have been if they couldn’t go anywhere?
